The Cooney House is an outstanding example of the Sarasota School of Architecture, designed by Seibert Architects in 1966 and winner of the 2001 “Test of Time” award from the Florida chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The award honors works that, by the timelessness of their design, have influenced a particular building variety. This home's simple, elegant and modern design was featured in "Sarasota's 10 Most Beautiful Homes" in Sarasota Magazine.

Seibert Architects’s clear concept, meticulous detail and workmanship, using ordinary materials, distinguish the house, which was built on a 50-foot lot on St. Armands Key. The pavilion living area, with its 10-foot ceiling and full-height glass walls, offers a visual extension to the outdoors. The remainder of the house turns inward, providing more intimate spaces. This modernist, regional architecture is about the enclosure of space and capture of light, adapting to Florida's landscape and climate.

Featured speaker Sam Holladay, AIA, is principal of Seibert Architects, PA, the oldest continuing architectural practice in Sarasota. Special guest Edward J. "Tim" Seibert, FAIA, Seibert Architects founder in 1955, retiring in 1994, began his career working for Paul Rudolph and Philip Hiss in Sarasota.

Complimentary refreshments will be served.
