Lustron Home Tour
Join us for a tour of the only remaining Sarasota Lustron Home (and only one of five remaining in the state of Florida).
Lustron Homes were mass-produced residences made by the Lustron Corporation of Columbus, Ohio, between 1948-1951. They are a rare example of a complete steel “flat pack” residential construction: the wall framing and roof trusses are milled steel and the exterior walls, roof tiles, interior walls and ceilings are porcelain-enameled steel panels that clip to the frame with vinyl gaskets. After purchase, a Lustron Home would arrive at its destination in approximately 3,000 pieces and could be assembled on a concrete slab in as little as two weeks. A total of 2,498 Lustron Homes were produced, with each house having its own individual number (this one is #1687).
