Join the AIA Florida Gulf Coast and AIA Tampa Bay Chapters for a guided tour of the new St. Pete Sanitation Administration Complex. This groundbreaking facility strives to exemplify civic design excellence, environmental stewardship, and community legacy.
This two-story, 19,000 SF facility consolidates the Administration and Operations Offices for the City of St. Petersburg Sanitation Department, replacing outdated infrastructure with a purpose-built structure designed for durability, performance, and resilience. Clad in a refined mix of brick and ribbed metal panels—some of which is recycled—the building’s aesthetic draws inspiration from its surrounding industrial context while advancing a bold vision for the city’s sustainable future.
As St. Pete’s first Net-Zero municipal facility, the project integrates photovoltaic solar panels across the rooftop and parking shade structures, achieving energy independence through extensive modeling and performance tracking. The building is targeting LEED Gold Certification through the USGBC.
Attendees will experience the architectural and environmental features firsthand, including a rooftop respite terrace ventilated through perforated metal panels and shaded by solar trellises, supporting the health and wellness of over 100 city sanitation employees.
The tour also highlights the site's cultural significance, featuring "Oneness," a 20-foot commemorative sculpture honoring the African American leaders of the city’s pivotal 1968 sanitation workers’ strike. This powerful artwork anchors the site in St. Petersburg’s rich civil rights history, reminding visitors of the dignity and strength of public service.
Don’t miss this opportunity to explore a civic project that is both high-performance and deeply human-centered, aspiring to set a new benchmark for municipal architecture in Florida.
