Join the AIA Florida Gulf Coast chapter for a guided tour of the SCC Youth Shelter. The youth shelter provides temporary housing and safe care for youth, ages 10 through 17, who have run away, are experiencing family conflict, or have been locked out of their homes. This project was designed for the children to come when they have nowhere else to go.
Instead of being cold and sterile, this facility was designed to be a creative, uplifting space that expresses the building's utility systems and structure. This was done to help promote creativity and help the children's experience feel less like a detention center and more like a positive place to grow into the next phase of their lives. This 9,000 SF facility includes administrative offices, a kitchen & dining room, a library/study, the dormitory wings, support/utility rooms, and an outdoor play area.
Contractor will be providing refreshments directly following the tour.
